Hobbies

A hobby is something I do on my free time and whenever I have free time, I am playing a sport. Ever since I was a little kid I was always involved in one sport or another. From little league baseball to tae-kwan-do, I've participated in a variety of sports. However, since high school, I have focused on three main sports: Running, Crew, Ultimate Frisbee.

RUNNING

When I was just a young lad, I was your everyday average medium-speed skinny wimp kid. But once I entered high school, I decided to give team running a try (due to the pressure of some friends and teachers), and after one month of training I was transformed from a junk food-eating couch potatoe into a lean-mean running machine! HAHA! After one year, I was hooked! Some days it seemed to only reason I went to school was to get some passing grades so I could run on the team! Running is now one of my passions in life. Yes, it is one of my hobbies. I polan to continue to run all my life. Next year I hope to participate in the Philadelphia City Marathon. In the future I hope to coach a high school team myself. EXCELLENT!

CREW

When I entered college I thought that my sporting days would be over. However, rowing seemed to be a fun thing to do, and I even remembered my track coach talking about it back in high school. So I gave crew a try. I really wanted to row, but because of my skinny-wimp-ness, I was dubbed a coxswain. A Coxswain is the little dude who sits in the back of the boat. My job is to steer (drive) the boat and to yell at the rowers (who are facing backwards). But these days each boat has mics and speakers, so I don't really have to yell. Things I tell them include race strategy (given by the coach), distance left in the race, time gone by, distance of other boats, motivational stuff, etc. It was a pretty cool thing to do. Crew was a great experience, but two years was enough. I always dreaded waking up at 6 am to practice everyday too!!! SUCKY!!! And shelling out hundreds of $$$ each year cuz crew is so poorly funded by the Univ. And getting thrown into the river each time we won stunck too (the rivers around here are soooooo dirty!!!)One thing that was really cool though was that if you win a race, you get the uniforms of the losing teams. HAHA!

ULTIMATE FRISBEE

Ultimate Frisbee is a sport that I started playing back in 1992 when I was still with the Boy Scouts of America. It was a pretty cool thing to do on a long summer afternoon. EXCELLENT! Little did I know that it would grow and explode to become such an awesome sport and a dominating part of American sport culture. Ever since high school I have become more and more hard-core; practicing more and more, buying my own frisbees, cleats, cones, visors, and even creating the wonderful Hall of Notoriety. Ultimate is one of the greatest and toughest sports that requires speed, agility, endurance, good timing, and arm strength. It is totally radical!!! (and the first ever intercollegiate game was played at Rutgers.....vs. Princeton....OF COURSE!!!)
